Multi-Domain SSL Certificate — SAN / MDC

Secure up to 500 different domains with one certificate

Managing SSL across multiple domain names is expensive and time-consuming. A Multi-Domain certificate (also called SAN or UCC) covers all your domains under a single certificate — one renewal, one install, one bill.

What is a Multi-Domain SSL Certificate?

A Multi-Domain SSL certificate (also called a SAN, MDC, or UCC certificate) secures multiple, completely different domain names under a single certificate. Instead of managing a separate SSL for each domain, you list all your domains as Subject Alternative Names — one renewal, one private key, one bill. It is also the standard solution for Microsoft Exchange, Lync, and other unified communications environments that require several host names on a single certificate.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a SAN (Subject Alternative Name)?
A SAN is an additional domain name embedded in the certificate. A Multi-Domain SSL certificate uses SANs to list every domain it covers. You can mix different TLDs (.com, .net, .org) and subdomains freely within the SAN list.
Can I add new domains after purchase?
Yes. You can add or remove domain names from your certificate at any time by requesting a free reissue from SSL.com. Some additions may cost extra depending on the number of SANs — check pricing at checkout.
Is this the same as a UCC certificate?
Yes. SAN, MDC (Multi-Domain Certificate), and UCC (Unified Communications Certificate) are all names for the same technology. The UCC label is commonly used in Microsoft Exchange and Office Communications Server documentation.
Does it cover subdomains automatically?
No. Unlike a Wildcard, a Multi-Domain certificate only covers the exact domain names listed as SANs. If you need automatic subdomain coverage, consider a Wildcard SSL or combine both in an EV UCC/SAN certificate.
How many domains can I secure?
Up to 500 Subject Alternative Names (SANs) — enough for most enterprise domain portfolios. Each additional SAN beyond the base count may be priced separately; check the SSL.com plan details for the current included SAN count and add-on pricing.

All your domains. One certificate.
